Bespoke shop-floor software

Custom performance displays, andon and OEE dashboards for manufacturing

Productised OEE tools assume your plant looks like theirs. We build performance displays, andon and OEE dashboards around the equipment, signals and operators you actually have.

Fits your shop floor

Integrates with the PLCs, SCADA, MES and legacy kit you already run — no forced rip-and-replace, no licence-capped seats.

Operators actually read it

Wall-screen layouts designed around real line-of-sight, shift rhythm and escalation paths. Not a re-skinned BI tool.

You own the code

Full source handed over. No per-line fees, no vendor lock-in, and a roadmap you control.

What we build

Four shapes of the same problem — giving the shop floor the data it needs, in the format it needs.

Andon systems and boards

Digital andon that escalates faults the way your operations already work — configurable colours, zones and acknowledgement flows, with a real audit trail feeding lean reviews.

  • Audit trail
  • Jidoka

OEE dashboards

Availability, performance and quality calculated from your tags, not a vendor's assumed model. Drill from plant KPI to a single line's Six Big Losses in two clicks.

  • OEE
  • Six Big Losses
  • Downtime tracking
  • TPM

Shop-floor TV displays

KPI walls, takt boards and production schedules sized for the screen they run on — readable at distance, tolerant of bad network days, auto-recovering on power cycles.

  • Heijunka
  • Visual management
  • Wall displays

MES, ERP and IIoT integration

If your kit emits a signal, we can build the bridge — bespoke means the protocol doesn't have to be one we've worked with before. SQL and MQTT are proven in production, OPC-UA and HTTP are familiar territory, REST is routine, and the long tail of proprietary and legacy protocols is exactly what bespoke engagements exist to handle. Data lands in the warehouses and BI stacks you already run.

Bespoke vs productised

When off-the-shelf OEE is enough — and when it isn't.

The honest version. Productised tools win when your plant fits their template. Bespoke wins when it doesn't — and the further from their template you are, the more the trade-offs compound.

Time to first dashboard

Productised OEE / andon software

Days to weeks. Template dashboards, out-of-box connectors for supported machines.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Weeks to months. Real engineering against your actual data model.

Fit to your equipment

Productised OEE / andon software

Good for machines the vendor supports. Older, custom or hybrid kit often needs paid integration work — or won't fit at all.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Built around what you have, including legacy PLCs, bespoke cells and hybrid process equipment.

KPI definitions

Productised OEE / andon software

Vendor's model of OEE, downtime categories and loss codes. Some configurability, bounded by the product.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Your definitions. Your loss codes. Calculated from your tags, aligned to how your operations already run reviews.

Licence model

Productised OEE / andon software

Per-line, per-machine or per-user subscription. Scales with estate; compounds over years.

Bespoke from Software Clever

One-off build cost plus optional retainer. You own the code.

Integration depth

Productised OEE / andon software

Pre-built connectors for supported systems. MES, ERP and bespoke endpoints often billed as services work.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Designed integration against the systems you already run — SQL, MQTT, OPC-UA, HTTP, REST, or anything else that emits a signal.

Data ownership

Productised OEE / andon software

Hosted SaaS by default. Export formats and retention depend on plan.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Deploy where you choose: your cloud, your on-prem, your hybrid. Full data access, full source.

Regulated environments

Productised OEE / andon software

Possible, but validation and audit evidence depend on the vendor's compliance posture.

Bespoke from Software Clever

Built to the audit, validation and change-control requirements of regulated environments.

How we work

Three steps, from shop-floor walk to wall-screen.

  1. 01

    Discover

On-site walkthrough with operators and engineers. We map signals, gaps and the KPIs that actually drive shift decisions.

  2. 02

    Build

Short sprints against a live data feed. Weekly demos on real screens, in the real environment — not a pitch deck.

  3. 03

    Grow

Handover with source and documentation. Optional retainer for new lines, new KPIs and evolving integrations.

Common questions

What plant directors and ops leads usually ask.

Scope and delivery

How long does a typical bespoke andon or OEE build take?

It varies — scope, integrations and on-site access all move the number. As a rough guide, most first-line installs land in eight to sixteen weeks from kick-off: around two weeks of discovery, six to twelve weeks of sprint build with weekly demos, then commissioning. Multi-line and multi-site rollouts extend from there.

Can we start with one line and expand later?

Yes — that's the usual pattern. A single-line pilot shakes out the integration assumptions and KPI definitions with minimum risk. Everything we build is designed to scale horizontally; additional lines, cells or sites reuse the same data model and dashboard framework.

What happens after handover?

You own the source and the deployment. We offer an optional retainer for new lines, evolving KPIs, integration changes and infrastructure support — but it isn't a lock-in. Some clients take the handover and run it themselves; some keep us on for years.

Integration and data

What data sources do you integrate with?

If your kit emits a signal, we can build the bridge — that's the whole point of bespoke. Production integrations to date have run over SQL and MQTT; OPC-UA and HTTP are familiar territory, REST is routine, and for historians and time-series databases we fit to whatever you already run. The protocols we haven't touched yet are, by definition, exactly what bespoke engagements exist to handle.

Do you replace our existing MES or SCADA?

No. We sit alongside them. The MES remains the system of record for orders, routings and genealogy; our work is the shop-floor-facing layer — andon, OEE, performance displays — that consumes MES data and adds the operator-facing visibility it typically lacks.

What about OT network security?

We defer to whatever network architecture and change-control rules your OT and IT teams already operate. Data flows are designed with your security team in the loop, not around them, and we don't push control signals back to the floor unless the scope explicitly requires it and it's been signed off.

Commercials and ownership

How is this priced compared to buying Vorne, L2L or Evocon?

Productised tools front-load low and back-load high: modest first-line licences, with per-line, per-machine or per-user fees that compound across the estate and the years. Bespoke front-loads the build cost, then flattens — you pay for engineering once and for optional support thereafter. Whether bespoke wins on total cost depends on how many lines you have, how long you plan to run the software, and how much customisation you'd otherwise pay the productised vendor to bolt on.

What do we actually own at the end?

The source code, the data model, the deployment configuration, and the documentation. Nothing phones home. You can host it in your cloud, your on-prem, your hybrid, and you can hand it to another developer to maintain if you ever need to.

Do you work internationally?

Yes — we engineer in the UK and deliver for clients worldwide, with on-site discovery and commissioning visits where the work warrants them. Time-zone overlap with Europe and the Middle East is comfortable; the Americas and APAC need more scheduling discipline around live demos.

Off-the-shelf OEE stops where your plant gets interesting. We start there.
